SKBK#2

This assignment reinforces what we have been working on in class regarding sighting, proportion and scale, and drawing what you see, not what you know.

2.1 Single box shape drawn with vine charcoal

2.2 Two stacked boxes drawn with graphite

2.3 Single cylinder drawn with charcoal

2.4 Standing and lying cylinders drawn with graphite

2.5 Box, cylinders and sphere drawn with graphite

Things I learned from this assignment:
  • I prefer charcoal on newsprint but graphite on sketchpad paper.
  • Keep the canvas parallel to still life scene to get angles more accurate.
  • Lighting helps make images easier to define.
  • Drawing what I SEE takes effort and practice.
  • Practiced using charcoal and graphite and adding different values to show shadow and light.
Things I struggle with:
  • Getting the angles of lines accurate.
  • Getting the lightest values to show, maybe need to use darker values to fix this.
  • Getting too focused in on details before getting basic forms to proportion and scale.
  • Work too slowly

Things I feel good about:
  • I am learning a LOT!!!
  • Practice will improve my speed and skills.
  • Professor and classmates are super encouraging.
